Rallying an ATM community with multiple priorities around common goals and solutions
Set within the framework of the Single European Sky (SES), the European ATM Master Plan is a key planning tool for defining the modernisation priorities for air traffic management (ATM) in Europe. It provides the strategic framework for development and deployment activities and associated investments. It is published by SESAR (the technological pillar for the SES), which brings together the EU, Eurocontrol, and more than 50 organisations covering the entire aviation value chain, from airports, airspace users, air navigation service providers (ANSPs), drone operators, manufacturing industry, and the scientific community.
The previous edition of the ATM Master Plan was published in December 2019. It defined the vision for a Digital European Sky by 2040 and identified the essential operational and technological changes needed to meet the performance objectives of the Single European Sky. However, in the intervening years, Europe's aviation industry has experienced significant upheaval - a pandemic, a war, and an ongoing climate crisis. These 'shocks' had a major impact on the sector, meaning that an update to the Master Plan was needed.
Given the tight timescales, Egis was contracted to support the update process. Egis pulled together a multi-disciplinary consortium comprising Egis’ aviation specialists alongside another leading consultancy and brand agency SGK. The consortium worked closely with the SESAR JU on planning the Master Plan update campaign, coordinating working groups, document drafting, stakeholder consultation, and ultimately the publication of the European ATM Master Plan 2025 in PDF format.
