Highway 16 Rehabilitation
The Highway 16 Yellowhead Corridor is a major inter-provincial route of the Trans-Canada Highway system connecting Jasper to Lloydminster and is designated as a core route in Canada’s National Highway System. The Highway 16 project involved rehabilitating a 33 kilometre section of the highway, along with additional safety improvements, east of Edmonton to Elk Island National Park.
Dwayne Berlando, General Manager, of Lahrmann Construction Inc. noted that he was “Proud to accept this partnering award and the recognition that comes with it. This achievement would not have been possible without the professionalism, cooperation and trust exemplified by the entire team in successfully completing this important upgrade to the Highway 16 corridor.”
Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass
The Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass was constructed over the Trans-Canada Highway east of Banff National Park in the Bow River Valley, to support wildlife crossings over an area of high that experienced very high volumes of animal collisions. The overpass is the first of its kind in the Alberta Provincial Park system and provides for a three-lane travel configuration in each direction, allowing for future highway expansion.
Neil Robson, project manager and design lead, DIALOG, said that “By creating safe crossings for animals, these structures dramatically cut down wildlife-vehicle collisions, safeguarding both human and animal lives.”
The Transportation and Economic Corridors Partnering Awards are an annual recognition program of completed contracts that best promotes, adheres to, and optimizes the principles of partnering, while striving for innovative solutions to complex problems.
