Founded in 1794, École Polytechnique, also known as X, is one of France's most prestigious engineering schools. In collaboration with Epaurif, the school, located in Palaiseau, has launched a call for tenders to modernize its emblematic central building and improve its environmental quality.
The work will highlight the architectural heritage of the central building, designed in the 1970s by Henri Pottier, winner of the Grand Prix de Rome. The winning consortium is led by enia architectes, in co-contracting with ATELIER MARC BARANI, Egis, Cycle Up and ARCHITECTURE & TECHNIQUE, Florence Mercier Paysagiste, ACOUSTIQUE & CONSEIL and PYRALLIS.
This ambitious project involves the reorganization of 24,000 m² of premises. The aim is to rethink work, teaching and social spaces in order to adapt them to new teaching practices, foster the integration of research and teaching, and support the School's development. This renovation will enhance the excellence of the services provided by the École to its users, and contribute to its worldwide reputation.
The project aims to create an innovative, modern and responsible campus, meeting current and future requirements in terms of accessibility for people with reduced mobility, safety, and thermal and acoustic comfort. It also aims to achieve the Silver level of the “Bâtiment Durable Francilien” label, by achieving carbon neutrality through optimized energy management.
Work will start in the second quarter of 2026 and be completed in 2029.
Egis teams will be responsible for all engineering trades, construction economics, SSI coordination, OPC, overall cost and operation and maintenance, environmental engineering and facades, as well as asbestos removal.
