Thirty years after taking on the concession of Abidjan’s Félix Houphouët‑Boigny International Airport, Egis and AERIA¹ look back on a journey defined by growth, modernisation and shared ambition. What began as a commitment to operational excellence has evolved into a leading African hub known for innovation, resilience and high‑quality service
Egis, a key partner in transformation
A trusted technical partner, investor and shareholder in AERIA since 1996, Egis has played a central role in shaping the airport’s development. Its integrated approach, bringing together operations, management, consultancy and engineering, ensures coherence between investment decisions, infrastructure design and long‑term operational performance. This alignment has supported successive modernisation programmes, works supervision and the continuous optimisation of airport operations.
A pioneering airport and recognised leader in Africa
As the first airport in Africa to welcome the Boeing 787, as well as Air France’s Airbus A350 and A380, Abidjan Airport has demonstrated its ability to meet the demands of long-haul traffic.
At a time when airports are facing growing challenges relating to resilience and sustainability, the experience of AERIA and its partners demonstrates the value of long-term governance. In 2023, Abidjan Airport became the first airport in Africa to achieve level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), reflecting an ambitious decarbonisation strategy. A key contributor to that strategy is the Soil.is programme, which combines carbon sequestration, ecological restoration, bio-waste recovery and circular economy principles.
Alongside major certifications, including the aerodrome certificate, and ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and 50001 standards, the airport has received multiple distinctions and National Excellence Awards from the State of Côte d’Ivoire, reflecting its strong and widely recognised management performance.

Continuous growth built on strong values
Sustained traffic growth of over 3.5% CAGR over the period, together with ongoing modernisation, has helped position the airport as a benchmark on the African continent. Its evolution has been driven by anticipating sector trends, enhancing passenger experience and maintaining consistently high operational standards. Underpinning this progress are values of professionalism, customer satisfaction, integrity, respect for commitments and team spirit - principles that guide every aspect of the airport’s activities.
